Community reading + book access for all

Turn reading into real-world good.

Read for Good is a community initiative that collects books, builds neighborhood reading corners, and supports literacy programs—so every child and adult can find stories that open doors.

Our mission

Make reading easy to start, joyful to continue, and accessible to everyone—especially underserved communities.

Book access

Collect and distribute quality books to schools, shelters, clinics, and community centers.

Reading support

Host read-aloud sessions, tutoring meetups, and book clubs for all ages.

Community spaces

Build cozy “reading corners” with seating, lighting, and rotating book selections.

How it works

Three simple steps to turn spare books and spare time into lasting impact.

Step-by-step

  • Donate
Drop off gently used books or contribute funds to purchase new, high-demand titles.
  • Sort & match
Volunteers sort by age range and language, then match requests from partner sites.
  • Share & support
Deliver books, set up reading corners, and run events that keep reading alive.

What we accept

We focus on books that are clean, complete, and age-appropriate. Popular requests include children’s picture books, early readers, YA novels, bilingual books, and practical adult learning resources.

  • Gently used or new
No mold, stains, or missing pages.
  • Inclusive stories
Books that reflect diverse identities and experiences.
  • Multiple languages
    Especially bilingual and community languages.
